space - object - user
a bathroom design for people with visual impairment
GOAL:
Better understanding of the user
Create a bathroom space that has easy accessibility
Improve the experience in the space - Safe & Relaxation (emotional needs)
Design Guideline -
Function: tiny, well-organized space, simple layout (ex: straight)
Emotion: smell & touch the color/event (tie a color to an emotion ex: green << grass >> spring)
Final concept -
Addressing memory, building a bathroom space that surrounded by railing with specific texture of each space attribute. Through touch and smell, I wanted to highlight the sense of the space.
This is experimental project of bathroom design for people with visual impairment. The goal for this project was to explore the interaction/communication between space, object and the user - creating a bathroom space that has easy accessibility, and to improve the experience in the space by highlighting the human emotion needs of safeness and relaxation. I did research on Synesthesia (union of senses) and Perceived Affordance in order to address the importance of five senses in my design. The smell test (using different smells like green tea, grass to test a total blind person) and the haptic test (test users with 13 different materials) played vital role in my research part. As the outcome, I create a outdoor private bathroom surrounded by handrail in three different materials to represent specific function space(toilet/ sink/ shower) in the place. On the other hand, I integrate green roof(smells with season changing) into my design to improve the sense of recognition at the place.
